Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in the ICU setting is responsible for providing advanced nursing care to patients with critical neurological, cardiovascular, trauma, and surgical needs. This role involves managing high acuity patients including those with strokes, STEMI, multi-trauma, and post-operative care such as CABG and valve surgeries. The nurse will perform patient assessments, administer medications, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, and manage overflow between PCU and ICU units. Strong neuro experience and certifications in ACLS, BLS, NIH are required, with at least two years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care to critically ill patients in ICU and PCU overflow units.
• Perform thorough patient assessments and monitor neurological, cardiovascular, and trauma conditions.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, including managing CRRT, IABP, and thrombectomy care.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans.
• Respond promptly to changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate interventions.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation using Epic charting system.
• Assist with surgical starts and post-operative care for cardiac and trauma patients.
• Manage sepsis protocols and other critical care interventions.
• Float between ICU and PCU units as needed to support patient care demands.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
• Minimum of 2 years ICU or critical care nursing experience.
• Strong neurological nursing experience.
• Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIH Stroke Scale, and LA Fire Card.
• Ability to work effectively in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience with cardiovascular surgery patients including CABG, valve replacement, and IABP management.
• Familiarity with CRRT and thrombectomy-capable stroke center protocols.
• Prior experience in trauma and multi-system injury care.

Special Considerations:

• No weekend work required.
• No on-call responsibilities.
• Must be able to float between ICU and PCU overflow units.
• Work environment includes a Level 2 Trauma and Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center with high acuity patients.

Scheduling:

• Shift type and schedule to be assigned based on unit needs; no weekend requirement.
• Typical acute care hospital shift patterns with flexibility for overflow coverage.
