Taskin Bakery is looking for an organized, efficient, and dependable Prep Cook to join our New York City kitchen team.
The Prep Cook will be responsible for preparing ingredients and food components ahead of service so the kitchen can operate smoothly and efficiently throughout the day.
Responsibilities
Wash, peel, chop, slice, and prepare vegetables, herbs, fruits, and other ingredients
Portion meats, cheeses, sauces, dressings, toppings, and garnishes
Prepare ingredients for breakfast dishes, sandwiches, salads, manti, sides, and other menu items
Prepare sauces, spreads, dressings, and basic kitchen components according to recipes
Portion and organize ingredients for line cooks and service stations
Label, date, rotate, and properly store food products
Maintain organized refrigeration, dry storage, and prep areas
Follow prep lists and daily production schedules
Monitor ingredient levels and communicate shortages to the Chef or Assistant Chef
Assist with receiving and organizing food deliveries
Maintain proper food temperatures and storage standards
Help reduce food waste through proper portioning and rotation
Keep knives, cutting boards, equipment, and prep areas clean and sanitized
Assist line cooks during busy periods when needed
Support other kitchen operations as needed
Qualifications
Previous prep cook, restaurant, café, bakery, or professional kitchen experience preferred
Basic knife skills and food-preparation knowledge
Able to follow recipes, measurements, and portion standards
Organized, detail-oriented, and efficient
Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented
Comfortable working in a fast-paced kitchen environment
Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
Able to stand for extended periods and lift kitchen supplies as needed
Flexible availability, including weekends and holidays
